The origins of Seco in North America traces back to 1928 in Detroit, Michigan—starting as part of General Electric, flourishing as GE Carboloy and then becoming what is now the North American hub for Seco.

Fagersta Bruks AB begins production of a cemented carbide product named Seco.

1971
Fagersta Bruks AB changes name to Fagersta AB and operations are divided up into three divisions: Steel, Seco and Secoroc.

1974
Seco is formed through hiving off the cemented carbide unit from Fagersta AB.

1987
Seco purchases GE Carboloy in Michigan, becoming Seco-Carboloy.

1990
Seco introduces Secolor™ grid to simplify insert selection process.

2008
Seco-Carboloy moves from Warren, Michigan to its current headquarters in Troy, Michigan.

2007
Seco-Carboloy changes its name to Seco Tools Inc.

2010
Seco introduces global recycling program to help ensure sustainability of industry.

2011
For the second year in a row, The Detroit Free Press names Seco one of the Top 100 Workplaces in Michigan.

2012
For the second year in a row, the National Association for Business Resources names Seco one of the nation’s “Best and Brightest Companies to Work For.”
