High feed milling is a roughing method developed to achieve higher metal removal rates that increase productivity and decrease machining time for each workpiece.

WHAT IS HIGH FEED MILLING?

High feed milling is a roughing method developed to achieve higher metal removal rates that increase productivity and decrease machining time for each workpiece. The process combines a shallow depth of cut with a large cutting radius or small lead angle to ensure that the cutting forces are directed towards the machine spindle in the axial direction. Axially directed cutting forces result in greater tool stability, which allows for greatly increased feed rates—sometimes up to 10 times the normal rate.

Even though high feed milling is primarily a roughing method, with our tools it is possible to achieve near net shapes. This allows you to skip the semi-finishing step and go directly from roughing to the final finishing operations—which saves a tremendous amount of time and effort and increases efficiency.

LESS COMPLEXITY, MORE PERFORMANCE WITH HIGH FEED MILLING

High feed milling removes a lot of material in a short period of time, whether your application involves face milling, pocketing, helical interpolation, slotting, copying or plunging. By applying the process to cut near-net parts, you can eliminate semi-finishing operations, resulting in a substantial reduction in cycle time.

Manufacturers working with unstable conditions or deep pockets that require long overhangs receive the greatest benefit from high feed milling. This becomes especially apparent in applications where the tool overhang is more than three times the diameter of the tool. The shallow depth of cut results in very low radial cutting forces and practically zero vibration, which gives high stability despite the long tool overhang. This increases tool life and allows for substantial productivity gains.

Jabro JHF181 Solid Endmill

JHF181 offers a specific high feed geometry for machining hardened steel, super alloys and titanium. JHF181 is available in dia 2-16mm and is perfect for small workpieces and cavities.

New High Feed 6 (HF6) with double-sided 6 edged inserts

The HF6 family consists of shell end mill bodies with fixed pockets and very strong negative inserts with six cutting edges. HF6 218.21 double-sided negative inserts have six raised-edge cutting edges to create positive cutting rake angles. They are available in three different geometries.

HF6 are optimised for machining P and K materals but also well suited for M and S materials.
