Advanced Materials Training Course

Attendees will be given a thorough overview of how to machine using two of the hardest materials know to man; PCBN-Polycrystalline Cubic Boron Nitride and PCD-Polycrystalline Diamond. These advanced cutting grades are formulated and specifically developed for machining hardened steel, pearlitic cast iron, hard iron and superalloys as well as soft abrasive materials such as plastics, graphite, copper and brass.

What will we cover?
We will take a look at performance comparisons of finish machining processes on a range of difficult to machine materials. We will outline new developments in machining strategies as well as showing you practical machining demonstrations. We will show you how to select the correct Tool and insert from Seco’s Machining Navigator catalogue and how to use Seco’s comprehensive ‘PCBN Parameter selection software’ which can help you to easily identify the correct parameters for CBN-usage based on material, application and operation. We will also talk about the technology behind PCBN and PCD and how those tools are manufactured.

Extreme Machining - As part of your training you will be encouraged to take the cutting process to the extremes. Together with a Seco Engineer you will explore just how far beyond book data the cutting process can be taken before tool failure occures. This will give you a greater understanding of the properties of PCBN and PCD tools.

Who should attend?
The course is designed to be of interest to all whether your role is as a machinist, programmer or process engineer. The information you will receive will help you to provide a quality component. You will take away with you vital information which will afford you a sound understanding of the considerations required when machining advanced materials as well as an information pack which will be of use to you in the future.
